Just a comment
Things that are completely transparent should leave no shadows (just
like in real life)
It would be awesome if the shadow intensity of the panel would change
appropriately depending on how transparent/opaque you make the panel.
That would certainly be a nice touch.

desktop eff
Here's a screenshot, interesting enough, as I tried to edit the
preferences to uncheck the autohide, well, the picture speaks for
itself, the menu was all messed up. The screenshot menu had the same
problems, i had to disable the desktop effects to actually be able to
save the screenshot.

Public bug reported:
When the desktop effects are enabled, (thus, allowing shadows to appear
under the panels) if the panel's background is set on transparent, the
shadow that goes with it looks out of place.
