Workaround is to boot using ultimate boot cd from CD or usb stick and choose
memtest.
I believe this has to do with the version of grub because this software will
work with older versions of grub.
I don' know how grub and memtest interact.

Ask Dell about this. They created a factory install disk that fixes this
on their hardware. It requires a reinstall so it would be better if you
fixed it as well.

Used usb creator on Ubuntu 9.04 to write to usb stick. ran md5sum -c
md5sum,txt with no errors. Disk was created to "Discard on shutdown ..."
