I have this problem too. It is very irritating, as I frequently return
to find that my laptop has run out of battery overnight because shutdown
doesn't complete. It's been such a long standing issue. I'm also
running Mint 18.3

I had the same problem with this upgrade and an ICH6. Alsamixer and 'm'
for unmute fixed it. The mute state is not at all obvious; I would guess
its starting value/default changed?

@Aleksei I'm afraid messing around with timers is not a valid approach
(the timings vary too much with differing setups). Martin is working on
a new feature for kwin that will allow this to be solved properly (and I
believe plans to backport it to KDE 4).

I have these messages also. My sound output is working OK but I cannot
get a response from the mic in my Logitech Quickcam E3500. It was
working up until about one week ago. During this time there have been
two kernel upgrades I think. My current kernel is 2.6.25-23-generic and
I have a Pentium
I resolved this problem by removing the battery and putting it back in.
This leads me to suspect the audio chip is left in an incorrect state
that is only reset by breaking the ground or removing power.

I've since found that the Netgear works with the older version of the Kernel.
It is disabled in the two more recent versions of the Kernel which installed

I can no longer safely remove my USB stick. I select the option but
other than the bouncing icon nothing happens.
I cannot pin point any particular incident / upgrade which occured
before the 'safely remove' option stopped working.

After the first system update however the card has disappeared from

How can I get it back?
