Confirmed that you need to purge and install by CLI
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer (works a treat)
It works fine for on my 64bit install now.

Bug also affects Lenovo G560, after fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 I
could not get to gui login .
At text login I could login but the login process would keep stalling
during loading.
Rebooted out of there and blacklisted intel_ips within the
blacklist.conf file and all appears to working just fin
I have never noticed this issue before but now it shows on Ubuntu
Maverick 64bit, the memory usage of both the Indicator applet and NM-
applet seems to get extremely high.
At points the two applets are consuming 1-1.5Gb.
If you need further details are required just let me know!

I have this bug when removing an external usb hard-drive/media player on
64 bit Lucid Lynx.
First time I have had this issue on Ubuntu, never occurred from Feisty
to Koala.

I have a problem with Compiz as well. If it is enabled it just makes
everything go so slow the desktop is unusable. As soon as you disable
Compiz the system works just fine.
All was working perfectly on 2.6.32-16, then 2.6.32-17 introduced the
issue. 2.6.32-18 the issue was resolved. But the -19 a
Vice works well for me in Karmic 64 bit, no problems at all !
