I patched my Lubuntu 16.04 with the mentioned upward patch few hours ago
and everything starts working perfectly. I also tested Linux Mint 18.3
with Cinnamon and everything works as expected without any patches. The
problem exists in Ubuntu MATE 16.04 too. All these are 64 bit versions.
