And now, after about two months, a so called fix,
that obvious was not tested at all.

i managed to install the kernel 3.8 on one machine and i can boot it.
It breaks my USB-wireless keyboard and mouse, but a PS/2 connected
keyboard works.
The native nVidia driver does not load, but i have a X desktop on one of
my monitors.
i did an apport-collect of this state.

Seems to be fixed now.
I just removed all kernels and installed the virtual kernel.
(It is listed as generic-pea in grub.)
The folder /lib/modules/-generic-pae/kernel/fs/
now has all that missing stuff,
This bug is still here today on my eee PC...

First i removed all kernels and installed the virtual kernel alone.
The folder /lib/modules/2.6.31-14-generic-pae/kernel/fs is nearly
empty, only one configfs folder, so no nfs modules there...

I just discovered, that a third pc with updated intrepid/ext3 to jaunty/ext4
had a grub installed-version with 0.97-29ubuntu36 until now, even after the
last update/upgrade. Before the next reboot, i did a

I am checking out the differences between /boot/grub and a copy that i made.
I found, that there is a new e2fs_stage1_5 and stage2
and the installed-version changed from 0.97-29ubuntu45 to 0.97-29ubuntu51.

Short summary:
- Boot with Live CD (i used USB-boot)
- open a terminal and do

Just to let you know: Same things happen with Fedora 10/64bit.
Crash/Reboot with standard boot, works with param mem=4096m, but only 3GB of
RAM available.

i did a complete new install of my Notebook with the actual Ubuntu 8.10 64bit
Desktop release CD.
I added mem=4096M to the boot parameter and everything went fine.
After first reboot, i had to modify /boot/grub/menu.lst with the same boot
parameter, because
the installer did not add this in

Hi all.
After Mackenzie Morgan's guess i removed one of the memory modules.
So my Laptop has only 2GB of Ram instead of 4GB now.
And bingo:I can boot the 64bit-Live-System from the Desktop CD and
seems to work perfectly. (As far as i can see right now.)

Some of my observations, don't know if helpful:
I found, that i get the locking error on some (not all) files on a NFS-mounted
directory.
So i copied that folder to a local disc. Now some files are ok, some other
files still
have the error. When i copy and past the file (with nautilus) the
