I have a very similar problem, but my laptop doesn't go through
/sbin/shutdown: it turns off abruptly as if I had pulled the power plug.
Always after 1 minute exactly.
I'd like to investigate this, if anyone has any idea what to try please
tell me. I suspect it is related to Intel Rapid Start, but

share listed in df, however on mount (what is valid) 8 shares listed.

This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.4, had to drop back from 14.4 due to some
VGA display issues. Working on it.
Install of OS done yesterday, today I tried instlling Samba, and got the
