Heh... Ummm... False alarm. Dropped netbook from height of about six
inches onto a wooden table. Problem solved. Something got knocked back
into shape, I guess, 'cause I no longer have the problem. Sorry for the
inconvenience.

On my eeepc, the fan has been perpetually "on" since I did a fresh
install. The CPU never gets much higher than 15%. Seems to me it would
be dialing itself up or down. I've seen this mentioned during the Natty
beta with regard to the Thinkpad, but it looks like something that
thanks for getting back to me. two things have happened since.
- Checking off the workarounds box in compiz seemed to have done the
trick.
- I've since upgraded to 8.04. (And OOO too, I believe.)
