appears to have been "fixed" by making the default frequency scaling
setting "performance". This sets the processors to a fixed clock, but
does not address the underlying crash when scaling is being used

don't know about the repository builds. THIS SHOULD NOT BE MARKED AS

I don't believe this has been fixed in the Ubuntu release. My system
crashed twice within 12 hours after I updated the kernel and switched
back to "ondemand". I'm verifying now that it doesn't crash in
"performance" mode.

As of the latest Precise update it is no longer possible to hibernate
either through pm-utils or as a shutdown option (even when the hibernate
widget has been enabled). This was working properly on Precise until
now.

I'm also not convinced that running as root would be advisable. I think
the question here is why the situation changed from 11.10 to 12.04. I
suspect the problem is not actually with Déjà Dup, but with a change in
permissions with how diverse files are generated. I would have preferred
to file this

Backup with Déjà Dup fails on numerous files due to r/w permissions for
root only (600). It appears that starting with Precise (12.04) many
systm files have changed permissions from earlier releases. Backup is no
longer effective unless run with root permissions.

every minute. LAN port eth0 is unplugged. Syslog excerpt for one cycle

I've just worked this problem through with a friend, and he was having
the same issue.
Adding the following entry to xorg.conf under screen fixed the problem.
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
Tested after a reboot and everything worked fine.
