smartd occasionally throws up the following error to syslog for my Intel
X25-M SSD:

This bug still exists in Lucid. Brightness changes, but no OSD pops up
on my Dell D630.

1. This problem still exists.
2. It appears that the origin of the problem is gnome-screensaver. By
either inhibiting the screensaver (gnome-screensaver -i) or outright
removing the gnome-screensaver package, this problem goes away. Why
that is, I have no idea. Monitoring dbus after issuing 'xs
I'm not totally sure, but this might be tied to an upstream bug:

It looks like there's a patch attached. Might be worth trying to apply
the patch and install a patched version of the driver...

I can confirm that this bug still exists in Lucid. This is a huge
problem for people with ALPS touchpads! How can we get someone involved
who will be able to fix this?
