Applied the patch successfully but failed to reboot with the same
symptoms, created journal1.txt please find attached herewith. On second
attempt systemd worked fine.
Pls note yesterday applied partial upgrade as well.

The error doesn't affect me but annoyingly force me to change the boot
option at grub menu failing which ends up in loopin boot process.

I am using 12.04 LTS it's also affecting me.
We're planning to use 12.04 LTS for a longer period of time, but it's sad to
see that it's already about 2 years now and still no resolution to the bug.
there's another bug reported and somebody made a screencast of the problem.

The fix for this bug is to install libstdc++5:
sudo aptitude install libstdc++5
Then Lightening should work fine with Thunderbird.
