Yes, it's a bit strange.
With the current configuration, usb_modeswitch seems to do exactly the
opposite of what it is supposed to do, it puts my device into install
mode (0083). Without usb_modeswitch, my device ends up in non-install
mode (1350) and things works fine. I uninstalled the usb-modes

with a driver on it.
When activating USB storage on the device, it will appear as a disk
device in Window, without having to install any driver.

do so, regardless of what NetworkManager says?
But perhaps we have a bug in NetworkManager. How can I check which

blkid has the bad practice of updating a file in /etc (blkid.tab). This
is annoying and against the spirit of http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html#ETCHOSTSPECIFICSYSTEMCONFIGURATION";>FHS.

/etc/rc*.d requires root access to setup, and by default it is run as
root for every user. And AFAIK, it's the same with Gnome logout
notification, isn't it?
I want something which a user can setup without root access, and which
is run as that user and only when that user logout (or shutdown).

That's the way I use to shutdown Ubuntu desktop.
Anyway, wouldn't it be USEFUL if the stuff in .xsession was executed at
shutdown?

So why does not the shutdown sequence wait for .xsession to finish? It
did in Ubuntu 8.04.

I know you can fiddle with /etc/rc2.d stuff, but that's complicated and
requires root access.
