This definitely appears to be a NetworkManager problem rather than a
problem with the iwl3945 driver. I installed wicd
(http://wicd.sourceforge.net) and was able to connect to my WPA enabled
G router without any issues.

I'm seeing similar log entries with my Linksys WRT54GL router with WPA.
I haven't yet tried my Netgear G with WEP but I imagine it would have
similar issues.
I'll try connecting via the command line to see if NetworkManager is the
problem.
