The patch helps, a bit... but I just tried using gromit with a wiimote
and got this strange result. All those lines are in fact only dots I
drew, but those dots get extended in a certain direction. I guess this

I had the "pleasure" to work on the Inspiron 3500 of my gf today. Same
problem as described here with Ubuntu 8.04.1.
However, digging around I got it working.

I have now installed the Intrepid Alpha release on another partition and
I got the same problem there. WinXP installs just fine from CD but at
the first boot it says the HDD is corrupted. The installation is
completed at this point though (seems to be successful, see screenshot)

The problem here is that the icons should *not* be in the tangerine
theme. Putting them there means the right icons will show up (in the
menus) for users of a) the tangerine theme and b) the human theme. But
all other users (using gnome-icon-theme, tango-icon-theme or any other
theme not ba
...as it would:
a) allow to give some special users update/install privileges
b) solve the theming problem: atm when you use synaptic, it will use
root's theme settings if the user uses a local theme, which potentially
looks very out of place
or is there a plan to move to PackageKit for Intrepid

small toolbar most of the time I forgot to mention it.

and UpdateManager into sync by a) removing all apt related packages
including apt itself and b) installing apt/apt-utils from hardy and then
re-installing sy

wants to install four packages
I don't see the bsh/gcj/... packages listed in UpdateManager in the
console output for both.

After looking at the app itself I think we could get away easy by just
using the list-add icon for "New Printer" (as currently used in the menu
already). I would also rename this action to "Add Printer" and move it
out of the Edit menu to a "Printers" menu, which would replace "File".

I Am seeing this too on my sister's PC: Athlon XP (32 bit) around 2ghz

I think I am seeing the same problem with my sister's PC.
It is using one of those softmac cards and Gusty tries to load the old
prism54 module. dmesg says "irq line busy", this is normal with this
driver. I then blacklisted the prism54 driver and on the next boot it

1.) gnome-icon-theme also follows tango guidelines
2.) network manager installs it's current set of icons to hicolor/, and
that is where those tango icons should be put instead. This way, all
themes can inherit the tango icons. I don't really know why this is not
being done upstream, but p
Putting them into tango-icon-theme-common doesn't help people who don't
use a tango-based theme like the default gnome theme. All the other
distributions just patch the network manager applet package to ship this
icon set instead of the ugly fedora icons... Please, fix this for gusty!

I installed Ubuntu Feisty on my old PC which is now used by my sister.
Everything worked great until I enabled desktop effects (compiz). Things
went very laggy, like windows only redrawing 1-2 times when moved
across the screen. This was strange, as I had compiz working grea
I've seen the crash too (Core2Duo T6600) and the only way to work around
it for me was to completely remove all of Ubuntu's Xen stuff and install
the latext Xen 3.0.4 from source. Before, it would freeze when starting
the 3rd guest, now I can run as much as I like.

I'm a big fan of the tango project, I really like the guidelines and the
resulting icons. Tango icon theme is really nice, so was Tangerine. And
the new Gnome icon theme is even better. So I'm all for getting more of
the deskop tangofied.
BUT: I never understood why tango was used as a fallback fo
