About half of the time, when I turn my computer on, there is no desktop icons
at all. I have to use dconf-editor:
org/gnome/desktop/background
show-desktop-icons IS on, I have to set if OFF, and then ON again, and all
icons almost immediately do appear.

I unfortunately have Ubuntu 14.10, for a few weeks (and I do not even why, for
I simply accepted a proposed update, in which it was presented as a LTS version
).
It is is a nightmare for me.
A lot of tools that I used to use crash very often or simply do not work.
So I do have to go back to a
Ubuntu 14.10.

I was working on paper.lyx (about 120 Ko).
LyX crashed without any error message. After that both paper.lyx and
paper.lyx.emergency were corrupted (only 12 Ko), and LyX could not open
them (trying for "infinite" time, I had to use Force Quit).
The only workaro
Still present in Ubuntu 14.10. I checked: Nautilus managing the Desktop is on,
but no icons. Even the command
nautilus --force-desktop
has no effect.

Downloaded LIbreOffice 4.2 and installed it. Now, it seems to work. Too
bad the "default" LibreOffice for Ubuntu 12.04 is still the version 3.

My presentation worked well last week. Now it crashes (and I need it soon!). I
have been able to open it in Read-only mode, and copied-pasted just one slide,
which contains a custom animation, to generate a test.odp file. I saved it, but
i t also crashes when I try to re-op
The "bug" was due to Debian "Sid". I do not why I have added this
unstable package, but I removed it, and everything seems OK now. At
least the automatic update has been able to finish without any error
message any more.
