Confirmed on two Ubuntu 18.04 workstations (upgraded from 16.04). One of
them did not have the problem until today.

This is a bad decision! As David mentioned this massively reduces
efficiency of our time tracking tool which was created specifically for
Ubuntu and Unity!

@John: You're right, I'm not using SSL, my solution was just for the
"sudo not working with ldap in general" issue. Users are only present in
the LDAP directory, not in /etc/passwd!

Made a mistake in my previous post.
I configured sudo with
./configure --with-ldap
Now I configured it with
./configure --with-ldap --with-pam
and everything works fine!!!

Same problem here. Only sudoers from the local sudoers file are
recognized. Also the setting sin ldap.conf (/etc/ldap.conf and
/etc/ldap/ldap.conf were not recognized - sudoers_debug made no change,
no debug output).
I fixed a part of the problem by recompiliing sudo-ldap from source:
apt-get bui
I'm experiencing exactly the same problem here with a Mono application.
The error in my application appears when I try to change the Tooltip-
Text of a TrayIcon. The error appears since an Upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04.
