I have to ask: Why wasn't the update reverted and not just withdrawn?
Especially if it causes regressions I would have assumed that there is
something like `2.31-0ubuntu9.3+really9.2` to be pushed into updates to
allow for smooth transitions out of the broken version.

I can confirm the problem on 16.04 and I can also confirm that the patch
posted in kde-bugs #353370 report seems to fix the issue (valgrind
compiled from source with and without the patch)

This bug also affect eglibc on Ubuntu 14.04 maybe not for the x86
emulator but we do have a software project which suffers from this. Is
there a possibility that the fix might be backported?

When the appmenu, gvim without arguments will not show any menu: neither
the normal menu nor the global menu.
When using gvim -f to prevent gvim from going into background, the
appmenu works fine
