I am experiencing an almost identical problem with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 64
bit with preferred system language English (United States), regional
format German and keyboard layout German.
When using the auto type feature instead of the @ character the ⅛
character is printed. When using the feature to
Chris, your proposal is not a solution but a workaround. Alternative
workarounds are to use an old version of Ubuntu or Windows 7 which shows
good performance on its 3D enhanced desktop.
I am still interested in a solution regarding this regression that the
Unity desktop does not perform any more.
Bug #1267384 is not a duplicate any more. Although I think it is exactly
what is being described here.

I just gave it a try with a 10.04 live CD and there the X performance is
at the good level I can remember. In 11.10,12.04 and 14.04-20140108 the

If this is a BIOS bug, wouldn't it possible for grub to work around it
by emptying the key queue when it starts? For most Ubuntu users it is
much more easier to receive an updated grub than updating their BIOS -
if there is an update.
For the sake of bug #1 please consider fixing this.

I am also affected by this. Disabling C1E in BIOS, nolapic_timer or
acpi_skip_timer_override fixes it. I think that acpi_skip_timer_override
has the least negative impact on my system so I am using this.
