I have the HP mini 311 which has a touchpad (I believe it is an ALPS)
that is not recognised as a touchpad but shows up as a geneic PS/2
mouse. Since it appears as a generic mouse it isn't possible to
configure the touchpad features such as disabling the touchpad when
typing.

Eclipse on Karmic is unusable because buttons rarely respond to button
events. Clicking on a button shows the button depressing but nothing
happens. The only work around is to click the button so that it gets
focus and then to hit the enter key which does actually register. T

Ok, the laptop died and ASUS had to replace the motherboard. Since
getting it back I haven't had any problems so I would guess that
problems were due to the pending hardware failure.

I switched to using the 173 version of the nvidia driver and the problem
hasn't occured since (a few weeks now) so I would guess that this is
caused by some problem with the 180 drivers and the 2.6.28 kernel.

Forgot to mention that the problem where it won't power down correctly
seems unrelated. It works fine unless I have USB headphones attached.

Without the nvidia module I was unable to get the system to crash during
use. However when I shut the system down it failed to power off and
there was an APIC error in the log when I rebooted (see attached)

Ok It crashed with noapic for me last night. (see attached kern.log)
I'm not sure what you mean about the modified kernel. I'm just using the
default 64 bit kernel that gets installed/upgraded by installation/apt.
I will try to test the problem without the nvidia driver installed now.

When entering terms to search for in adept, it filters out nearly all sensible
results.
eg if I enter "git-core" it shows nothing but if I just put "git" it shows
git-core and a bunch of others.
or "linux-image" shows nothing but just "image" shows linux-
I would also like to point out that the work around of adding
Acquire::http::Proxy "http://yourproxyaddress:proxyport";;
to the apt.conf file does not work since the installer is hanging when it tries

Just booted the gutsy tribe 2 cd and the problem persists. soloution is
still to add the Option "MonitorLayout" line to the xorg.conf file.

When performing an install of either ubuntu or kubuntu and you are
behind a corporate firewall, the install will hang when it gets to the
stage of scanning mirrors. This is because you need to setup a http
proxy before apt can work. The manual work around of opening a terminal
I have now tried fiesty beta and the fix does not work for my laptop.
ASUS W2V with x700 card. The laptop screen is still turned off and video
output to the vga connector. In addition the beta doesn't give me a
console I can drop out to, so I have no workaround either.

I have an ASUS W2V laptop with a radeon X700 videocard. The live CD for 7.04
(and 6.10) starts
fine but when X starts the screen turns off, even though the destop continues

I can confirm that his happens on my ASUS W2 laptop which also has the
x700 ati card
the Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,AUTO" workaround fixes the problem for
