I did some investigation and found the solution in Bug #509265:
After installation of packet "linux-firmware-nonfree (1.8) [multiverse]" the
pain has gone and my prism2-wifi-card works again!!!

I've installed and tested the latest upstream kernel (which I found as
2.6.34-999-generic, hope it's the right one). Sorry to say that my
wireless-card is still *not* accepted by Ubuntu 10.04.
