To resolve this error, simply edit the following file:
sudo vim /etc/apcupsd/apcupsd.conf
Change "STATTIME" to some value greater than zero (0).
As an example, I use STATTIME 60

I just tried the same proceedure with gnome-screensaver. The system
logs did not report anything during a crash.
BTW, I do not think the error message stated above has anything to do
with the problem at hand (Researched the issue on the Net).
