I had a similar problem with my config files because I named them with
underscores. Changing underscores to dashes in the file name and

The above mentioned workaround worked for me:
1) remove all layouts except for US Dvorak
2) add back whatever you want
For a dvorak user this is a pretty key bug, and I'm sure there are more
than 6 of us.

I think the summary may be misleading, this doesn't just happen with
"Try Ubuntu"
This seems to also occur if you select a language other than English
when installing at the desktop, or select "Install Ubuntu 10.04" from
the Install dialog at startup.

I can not test that the latest Hardy Live-CD has fixed this issue
