I have installed a new language pack (ja) together with the en_US, using
the system settings. en_US is the first in the language list, anyway,

I have exactly the same problem with exactly the same wireless card /
driver and exactly the same outputs.
What happened is that until 8.04 I upgraded and I had a eth1 in my
ifconfig, now that I reinstalled from scratch, I have a wlan0, so I
supposed to have upgraded from ipw3945 to the new iwl394
