for short: Goto drm-intel-next PPA
(http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/) and then
download the following files
tested and seems to work

I updated my MSI WInd U100 bios to version 10E and I still have the
flickering during the login chooser (GDM). After the login the
flickering is gone (but that was the same with the older bios) Changing
brightness is still a problem.

That's only the MSI wind but it looks very similar; xrandr and hardware
both at the same time setting the brightness.

About you two solutions, but first... thanks
- gnome-power-manager also change the brightness after couple of minutes
of inactivity. So it's not only the keys I think
-the xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL combination is not
working for me because there is no such option as BACKLIGHT
