Problem solved. It was happening because I had checked the option to encrypt
the home folder.
Once I unchecked it, it installed with no problems.

When installing Ping-Eee on a Lenovo ThinkPad X61, the installer crashes
upon creating a new user. A message pops up saying to report it here, so

After another general update, the layers list seemed to work until I
dropped an image file in Gimp to open it, at which point they vanished.
So, I guess restarting it has not much to do with the list disappearing.

With today's update, all the lists (except the undo history list) appeared in
their windows and worked. After I closed Gimp and reopened it, they stopped
working/displaying again. *puzzled*
They haven't worked since then, no matter how many times I restart Gimp.
