The bug also affects me, and I'm using fglrx. I can reproduce it easily, if not
always.
I recall changing to the radeon driver, but the problem remained.

Public bug reported:
Sound works fine, except when I plug in the headphones. Sound will then play
through speakers and headphones.
Expected speakers to mute when I plug in the headphones.
