After the Maverick upgrade I got the "Root Password" prompt for updates.
I found my userid wasn't on the "admin" line in /etc/group.
Putting it in fixed it.
I'd been in the admin group before, but I run a mixed NIS and local environment
with overrides so perhaps the upgrade script got confused

I used to get unstable initialization, but now EMU-0202 no longer works for me
at all.
Backports with alsa-drivers used to provide 96Khz sampling, but now backports
just causes 100% CPU hang as soon as the EMU-0202 is connected.

I saw this on an upgrade from Koala to Lucid, manifest as high CPU usage for

This failed for me today. Perhaps it had cached a download, and perhaps
repeatedly removing the /var/cache/apt/archives and
/var/cache/apt/archives/PARTIAL compiz-plugins* files also failed
because an intermediate proxy server had cached the bad file. But it
failed again until I manually download
I've not had any more kernel oops to test with. (The cause of the kernel oops
I saw was a hardware problem.)
I'm unlikely to figure out how to get upstream kernels to test this with.

I'm attempting to isolate a consistent crash on an Intrepid (upgraded
from 8.04.1 LTS) using linux-crashdump and am not getting the dumps;
instead, I get an error message about memory not being reserved. Indeed
