To be absolutely sure: you do activate gconf-editor as root? If you activate it
as normal user it won't work.
Just do a "sudo gconf-editor" and follow the advice.

.emerald-directory. The same problem just occurred again (still: only the last

Same problem here. Doesn't make out what application is running. Have noticed
something other: it is only the last window that does it. Say you have five
applications maximized, one on top of the other. You can minimize four windows
only the last one refuses.
Meantime I deleted the map .emerald
