During the upgrade I received the following:

I did a fresh install of Kubuntu 7.10 from the DVD build. After running
the new patches, the program offered to do a version upgrade, which I
thought strange because I had only downloaded the DVD a couple of days
ago.
In the step "Preparing the upgrade", the program threw an error and
