I'm getting the same problem, though when I first install Maverick beta
it works okay apart from not being able to see the mouse cursor. When I
ran the updates hoping that the cursor problem would go, I get this
instead. I don't know if the two bugs are linked in any way?
I am a bit of a newbie so

Yes, I get exactly the same - pixelated logo, then a pattern of dots
before the screen blanks.

This bug is also present in the new Ubuntu 10.04 cd, which just hangs
with a blank screen for me.
It is probably under-reported because a lot of less technical people
will just have a computer that doesn't work, so they can't report it.
