For all those with this issue, try the current mainline kernel to see if
it helps - I have not had a lock in over a week now running Quantal with
a 3.8 mainline kernel - which is the most stable it has been in months,
since switching to Ubuntu 12 series.
For those who have never done it before see
@Brian: As per my comment #590 i tried the Quantal 3.5 kernel from the
precise repo, and it did not help.
I have also given a fresh install of Quantal with its stock 3.5 kernel a
go on a spare drive I had lying around, and within 20mins of playing a
video in XBMC, hard lock.

@adrianb: Weird, its not even a recent CPU, would have expected your
hardware to be rock solid.
Going to try a daily build of mainline 3.7 kernel over the next few
days, will post up results.

processes, this bug is not the right place to comment. Compiz problems
causing your user interface to lockup are relatively common place and
NOT the same problem causing a COMPLETE HARD LOCK, which result in a

@Raider: Sorry to say your issue seems to be an interaction between your
hardware and your screensaver / power settings, as your previous
comments mention ability to ssh in to your machine and check process
etc. Your problem is not associated with this bug report, as you have
not had a hard lock.
@Martin: Apologies, I fat fingered it, and found no way to correct my
mistake, great first contribution to Ubuntu eh?
@Covi: More people with this provlem are running Intel CPU with on-board
GPU and have the same issue, nvidia should be let off the hook in this
instance.
