Public bug reported:
I'm not really sure why, but this has happened with two Kubuntu 8.10
installs for me so far. I don't recollect doing anything strange to my
computer.
The symptoms are:
* First the computer gets really slow.
* On reboot it won't show anything except for the background in KDM (
I haven't had the error in a while now, I don't know why.
I don't remember any hal update or something which made everything work;
suddenly it just did.

I choose kubuntu-desktop as the package bugging because I'm not sure

The issue originaly occured in the base system install, it was fixed
when I installed kubuntu-desktop it seems. Therefor I propose this to be

Okay, I'm not sure how exactly to explain this since I'm not entirely sure what
makes the system lock up, but I believe it's related to the system bell.
Anyway, please bear with me because I'd consider this to be a ser
My network card worked fine on both 7.x-releases, but now in Hardy it
does not.
This is how I solved it (and shouldn't have had to... FAR too much hassle):
0) Install build essentials...
1) Download the rt2500 serialmonkey drivers, compile and install. (wget, make,
sudo make install)
2) Blacklist
I compiled and installed the serialmonkey drivers for rt2500 and blacklisted
the old ones, and moved the .ko-file to the right place.
It's dirty, but it worked, now I get full speeds with my rt2500 card, possibly
even faster than I ever did in Gutsy! :)
