I got a hold of a Windows user who let me plug the iPod into his box,
and upon starting iTunes, iTunes claimed that the iPod was corrupted and
needed recovering. So it promptly went and downloaded a 60 mb or so file
from Apple and upgraded the firmware + restored the iPod to factory

Update again: same boot, same system, no changes whatsoever (been doing
the exact same thing (studying) the whole time since the above update),
and now it is not functioning anymore. It suddenly just stopped being
able to copy stuff from Anki into gnome term. Pidgin mouse select +
middle click work
Update 3: (sorry for spam, but too much info beats too little)
Restarting Anki solved the problem temporarily. I can now copy from Anki
to the gnome terminal again using both Ctrl+C / Ctrl+Shift+V and mouse-
selecting + middle-buttoning. Coincidentally, Pidgin is still
malfunctioning although Anki
Update again: same boot, same system, no changes whatsoever (been doing

At the latest reboot, Pidgin and Anki both work fine. That doesn't

I have this problem in e.g. Pidgin and Anki (Japanese flashcard app).
Ctrl+C does nothing, and selecting with the mouse and middle-clicking
will paste whatever was selected prior to that, e.g. in Firefox, for the
MOST part...
