fresh install of ubuntu-mint 14.10 -> install fails on grub2
installation. Error does not seem to occur with fresh ubuntu (unity)

I have tried running the 3.15 utopic kernel with 14.04. The system boots
up fine, however, i'm still getting the black screen on grub. The only
option I added was 'nomodeset'. Is anyone else experiencing this, or did
you all move 14.10?
