I received this error when hitting the check button in the update
manager. It would only check the existing lists and not download the new
ones. I had to use the terminal to upgrade.

This happens to me on an amd64...
I did look at the error files from recovery mode failsafe graphics. (I'm on my
mac partition now, so I don't have access to them) but it seemed that the
nvidia driver wasn't loading...

Thanks, I had fixed it right away actually, as I was trying to add
another source, but typed it in wrong. I simply forgot I reported a bug
about it, but I would agree with you that it would be nice if Software
