I am experiencing this too with Inkscape on Kubuntu Maverick, having a nonstandard icon theme. If I change the gtk theme to something different from QtCurve or if I set the icon theme to Oxygen everything works ok. The only combination which doesn't work for me is QtCurve+Faenza Icon theme. Got
