Same for me, except launching from command line has exactly the same
effect (i.e. failure to launch). The Gtk error message is the same. My
system is a Dell Latitude D600 laptop and I upgraded from 10.10
(gcompris worked) to 11.04 (now not working).

clicking around on Web sites with the external USB mouse and I've been
having no problems. So it must be related to the touchpad driver. By the
way, it doesn't matter how I try to click with the touchpad: there are
two left mous

it's extremely annoying. I also noticed it picking stuff along the Gnome
toolbar across the top of the screen, but that seems to have gone away.
