This whole sequence started when I attempted to install 12.04 lts onto a Dell
Optiplex 280 with single core Pentium 4. 3gb memory. 750 Gb hard drive
partitioned as (3) NTFS partitions of about this size. C ~ 300GB, D ~ 300GB, E

I have this problem in Jaunty, and it seemed to start when I installed
snes9express.
I have found that I can get key repeat working again by unchecking then
rechecking the enable repeat checkbox under the Keyboard system
preference applet.

First install (that didn't work quite right) was in this method:
Insert Cd with iso file image, reboot computer, select to boot from CD, follow
command line script and install along side WinXP. On second install (today), I
booted into WinXp, inserted CD and let install run inside WinXp.

I'll give it a try. Right now I am working on deleting the 2 Ubuntu partitions
that were made on the WinXP machine when I reinstalled 9.04. On a 3rd install I
don't want a 3rd 2 Gb partion on a 40 Gb drive. I'm letting XP install service

Just wanted to echo that I've had this problem as well, using the Glossy
theme.
Further, and I don't know if this is related, I've had a similar problem
occur in Nautilus, where right-clicks sometimes activate one of the menu
items immediately, sometimes even before the menu has completely
appeare
