Followed the two sound troubleshooting guides on

Alsamixer settings are identical between 11.10 and 12.04.
Other actions:
- booted from live CD 12.04 -> sound ok
- did a fresh install of 12.04 -> no sound

Version 11.10 (on an other partition): sound works ok.
