I have the same / similar problem but mine shows the "Application" menu
selecting it does noting except display a 2x2 pixel item.
None of my apps are now available
Please help this is URGENT.
Without any apps all I can do is revert back to XP, (yuk!)
I also cannot get the "System | Preferences
I am certain I haven't 'dragged' anything I was changing a few setting
under "System | Preferences | Main Menu" and suddenly I have the same
problem, except I have NO MAIN MENU at all just a small dot that appears
to be approx' 2x2 pixels in size.
How do I get my menu back?
I cannot find anything
Mine just hangs forever, using Gusty (release) and although the SHUTDOWN
button was originally there (for about 24hrs) after that it disappeared,
and I cannot find how to bring it back.
However I just tried hitting the power on/off button and it shutdown
cleanly and properly. Strange Eh?

To fix this is much easier than it at first appears, first a warning!
Do not try to use the tool under "System | Administration | Screens & Graphics"

Are you using a Flat-Panel display as your 2nd? If so and you're using
the nvidia driver you'll have to hack about with the EDIB (not sure if
I've spelt this right) settings see the Nvidia readme that you can get
by downloading the drivers from the Nvidia site. I think it's chapter
13.

Try turning off Xinerama, and try again. Sometimes works sometimes
doesn't can't yet figure out why.

Try just moving the mouse icon onto the main monitor. Found this myself
once and I'd left the mouse on the secondary screen, silly I know but
shouldn't happen after a clean reboot. Chow

I have this problem on an Nvidia GeForce 7600GT, it seems to always
login if changing from "Matrix" and "GLMatrix" screensaver leaving me at
a Gnome (Blue) login screen. However, I haven't yet tracked what is
causing this. Though I've heard that re-installing the Nvidia-GLX
(?restricted mode?) driv
