I did some further testing:
The problem persists with ubuntu kernel version 4.4.0-13
Mainline kernel 4.5.0 also has this problem, but mainline kernel 4.4.5
works absolutely fine.

I have the same problem, while suspend works with kernel 4.4.0-10 it
stopped working with kernel 4.4.0-12 (don't know about *-11).
