Similar issue when installing from USB to asus eepc 901.
after selecting keyboard and locale, I get an error saying that ubiquity
crashed with code 10. If I press continue, and wait, then the progress
bar gets to about 80% and then hangs. The message above the progress bar
is "ready when you are".
The following was suggested in the update manger's error message:
apt-get install -f
This seems to have fixed the problem. At least the command above said
that it installed groff and groff-base without errors.

Same problem on Karmic, with thunderbird 2.0.0.23 installed from the
Karmic repositories. I'm also using google mail IMAP interface.
To recreate:
1. delete a message
2. select "Undo delete message"
3. nothing happens

after appying the volume fix:
