If you don't like the presence info, you can turn it off using gconf-
editor. The option is found in / -> apps -> fast-user-switch-applet and
is show_presence_info.

Can you give some more information about your setup? Eg your version of
Ubuntu, package versions of Compiz/Compiz Fusion, what plugins you have
enabled for Compiz. Also, does the glitch happen with compiz using
default settings?
