This was quite a while ago... Let's see if we can't close this one
soon.
I'm guessing that I had to run /usr/lib/hal/hald-generate-fdi-cache to
make the issue go away. I've had to do that various times on Gutsy
boxes before Hal worked properly.
I've got a fresh version of Gutsy installing in VM

Binary package hint: kde-style-qtcurve
In Ubuntu Hardy, the KDE3 Style QTCurve has an ugly color issue. The
Main Menu bar is a different color from the rest of the UI, it does not

Binary package hint: kdebase-data
The file "/usr/share/wallpapers/KDE34.png" is misleading.

However, the filename refers to KDE 3.4
This isn't vital, but shouldn't the filename be KDE35.png?

Flash itself seems to be working again, in Gutsy at least.
If "Load Plugins On Demand Only" is enabled, flash videos show up as
gray boxes without the start plugin button.
Unchecking "Load Plugins On Demand Only" makes Flash videos work fine.
