I'm using the gedit snap, version 3.36.2+git3.8c9da67ab, rev 605 on
Ubuntu MATE 20.04. The window control for closing the window looks

UPDATE: In my situation, the problem was caused by using a backup
directory ("/var/backups") that my user did not have permission to write
to. A simple chmod fixed the issue, but this manifested itself in deja-
dup as a unicode error. Please consider adding a check/caveat to the

Trying to do the procedure outlined in

startup-12-10 via Dolphin causes the same crash upon first keypress in
the Dolphin console, so no hope of getting any more information.
