I re-checked this in Pinta 1.5 (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) and Pinta doesn't crash any more - but the Circle Select tool does NOT allow copying to the clipboard (and thus pasting from the clipboard) although both the "rectangle select" and the "lasso select" both work fine. No crash, but also not working

Update: it appears that the bug may be due to some kind of 'race condition' between processes during boot. After a later boot the icons 'popped back' to their 'proper' positions (twice). They, apparently, hadn't lost any position information in the interim, but have since returned to being drawn
