Surprised not to see an issue reported here as it seems to be impacting
compiling Mesa-dev on Jammy and Kinetic. Perhaps I'm in the wrong
place, but seems right.
It seems there is an issue prior to 1.602.0-r1 as documented here:-

change the login screen settings only. Since the change in lock screen
the users backdrop and not the greeter backdrop is always displayed when

my work machine is not the graphics adapter, it's the fact that I
actively lock my desktop and generally do not on my laptop... the issue
