If you want to correct the script just replace the last line :
xinput set-prop "$1" "Synaptics Right Button Area" $left $right $top
$bottom
with this one :
xinput set-prop "$1" "Synaptics Soft Button Areas" $left $right $top
$botto
After several reboot, the issue remains fixed. That's cool !

I have a similar bug with Ubuntu 12.04 though the depth part is working.
The title bar of each application is not displayed and I can't move some
of the application windows. (I can move Firefox window, but not Nautilus
or OpenOffice windows.
This happend after the last update.
