Same situation on 3 laptops i use KUBUNTU 11.10 on all:
dell inspiron 1520 nvidia card
dell inspiron q17r intel (optimus-nvidia) card
hp g72 intel (switcheroo ati) card
Happens only when desktop effects are ON.
So i dont think that problem is connected to video card,

i managed to run this configuration - but with desktop effects turned off, when
i try to turn it on, X server restarts.

im trying to use external monitor (samsung p2470HD) with my laptop HP NX7400 -
it uses i950 graphic
when i connect external monitor i can use it as a clone of my display, a can
sometimes change its resolution to full HD, but sometimes it casues X s
i just have tested 8.10 livecd, and i could not been able even to find i
wifi network :| (iwlist wlan0 scan), i've tried to connect to network
same as to hidden but this not work too...

ok i was wrong bug exist, but only on certain AP (or configurations), in
my house it is working, but in my girlfriend is not - both use WPA - PSK
one is AES (not working), and another one migth be TKIP (i dont
remember, and cant check, because i use crapy netgear, and i dont have
any connecting to
i had linux-ubuntu-modules package version 2.6.24-23.36 installed, but
today i wanted to catch dmesg, but suddenly... everything worked ok... i
dont know, why it is working now, and why it have not worked... i'm
sorry for disturbing... please close the bug...

same thing with intel cards - i have hp nx7400 and i950GMA on board.
Interesting thing is that, when i disconect or connect power cord or
ethernet wire the last touch of lid close button is working (i mean that
when i have closed lid before this). It might have been problem with
