This would seem to be a recent change to behaviour, and a quick google
search shows examples with a space before the colon in Gnu make's own
documentation and of other makes. This being the case, a couple of
lines of C printing a more helpful message in the case that the Makefile
requests that it

With the following Makefile:

echo "all is well"

the commands "make", "make hello", "make load" result in error with
message
Makefile:1: :: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Makefile:1: *** :: failed to load.
I also a similar problem, but I do not use syncevolution. I have 3
friends with birthdays a couple of days ago, but gbirthday does not
display their names. Editing the gbirthday script and uncommenting the
print statement at
ano = sDate.year - int(ano)

Binary package hint: verbiste
The verbiste GUI allows saving in latex format, but the output cannot be
processed since this requires the file verbiste.cls (which is included
in the verbiste source package in src/gtk/verbiste.cls) and this is not
included in any of the verbist
